Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies

Hello All! I haven’t been able to post as much as I would like lately as we have been busy settling in to our new home. As I am woefully behind this post is about these red velvet crinkle cookies that I made for Christmas. Now, those of you who know me know that red velvet is one of my favorite flavors (and one of the only flavors I will eat in a cake) and those of you who have followed my blog from the beginning probably remember these tasty, but disappointing in the red-velvet-department shortbread cookies that I tried last year. I decided to try another red velvet cookie recipe this year with the hopes that it would become one of my new faves and because the red color is just so fun for the holidays!

I followed the recipe with the exception of I only used half the amount of food coloring because I ran out. This wasn’t a problem as my cookies were still plenty red!

Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies

One batch makes a lot of cookies – I got over 30 and the cookies are pretty big!

I liked these (and my fiance loved them) but they weren’t quite what I was expecting. They were a little heavier and a little cakier than something I would classify as a “crinkle.” When I think crinkle I think something with a light crust on the top like these brownie cookies I made last year.

They were also slightly dry but I think some cream cheese icing could easily rectify that! redvelvet2

They did have plenty of red velvet flavor and for that reason alone I would be likely to make them again.

Did you experiment with any new cookie recipes this holiday season? Let me know in the comments!

Happy pinning!
